The treatment of light as a volume filling spatial field is the rendering frontier I am currently pushing on. This Dark Roasted Blend feature on Russian Icebreakers has several beautiful pictures of ships emerging out of fog in the darkness, their lights filling the space around them. These are nice real world examples of the kind of light I'm calling spaces between.

I have painted two small interpretations of photos in the DRB feature in terms of space filling light, rather than by painting the surfaces.
